Chinn fined $17,911 for Wilson hit as Raiders return to the Bay to face 49ers
The league docked the Raiders safety for the fourth-quarter hit that helped close out the Jets, and he is a Week 9 captain at Levi's Stadium.
The NFL fined Raiders safety Jeremy Chinn $17,911 for the helmet-to-helmet hit on Jets receiver Garrett Wilson with 20 seconds left in last Sunday's 38-33 win in East Rutherford. Heavy's Isaac Zuniga reported the figure Saturday night, and the Review-Journal confirmed the discipline. That number is the standard first-offense amount for unnecessary roughness against a defenseless receiver. Chinn is also one of three Raiders captains today, alongside Brock Bowers and Darrell Luter Jr.
The other item worth your attention is quieter. Longtime Raiders reporter Vinny Bonsignore said on Raider Nation Radio that people inside the organization are "not quite sure he is 100 percent" about Ashton Jeanty, who has dealt with two lower-leg injuries, as Raiders Beat relayed. Bonsignore added there is "no inclination with the Raiders to move on from it." Jeanty got two carries at the Jets. Opinion: a sixth overall pick touching the ball twice in a win you had to grind out is not a plan, it is a hedge, and Las Vegas is 31st in rushing at 77.3 yards a game.
San Francisco spent Saturday reshuffling. The 49ers activated Demarcus Robinson off injured reserve after an ankle injury in Week 2, elevated KhaDarel Hodge for special teams, and put Christian Kirk on injured reserve. Kirk hurt his knee Thursday, and Kyle Shanahan called it a meniscus injury with surgery still undecided. Mike Evans (ribs, Achilles tendinitis) and Deebo Samuel (hamstring) were already ruled out. Christian McCaffrey practiced fully Friday.
Las Vegas is thinner in one spot and whole most everywhere else. DT Thomas Booker IV is out with an ankle, CB Darien Porter is questionable with a groin, and rookie DT Tim Keenan III got his third and final practice squad elevation. Dylan Laube was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his 95-yard kickoff return touchdown, the first Raider so honored since Daniel Carlson in Week 18 of 2021.
The ledger is unflattering. The Raiders are 4-4 with the third-best passing offense (265.1 yards) and the 31st-ranked defense by yards, allowing 28.8 points a game. The 49ers are 6-1, fourth in scoring and fourth in total defense, and fifth against the run at 89 yards allowed, per the team's own preview. This is the first Raiders regular-season game in the Bay Area since a 34-3 loss in 2018, and San Francisco leads the series 8-7.
Kickoff is 1:25 p.m. PT on FOX. Watch Jeanty's carry count in the first quarter, because that answers the health question faster than anyone at the podium will. The trade deadline is a week out, and the Maxx Crosby noise has not stopped.
