Raiders lose Jack Bech to a broken forearm and sign Tyler Scott before Chiefs week

The 3-0 start came with an invoice, and it landed Monday. Jack Bech broke his forearm in Sunday's 35-27 win at New Orleans, and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the second-year receiver is headed to injured reserve with a chance to return later in the season, as Pro Football Talk relayed. A designation to return means a minimum of four games gone.

Bech's production ledger was thin, five catches for 48 yards and a touchdown over the first two weeks and nothing Sunday, but the roster math is real. The Raiders worked out three receivers Monday and signed Tyler Scott to the practice squad, releasing Ronnie Bell in the corresponding move. Scott is a 2023 fourth-round Bears pick with 18 career catches, four teams on his resume and a 4.39 forty. He is a flier, not a replacement.

The rest of the Monday accounting read better. The team's own numbers desk has the Raiders leading the NFL with nine takeaways, more than half of last season's entire total in three games, with Nakobe Dean atop the league in solo tackles at 22 and tied for the lead with three forced fumbles. Kirk Cousins' nine touchdown passes are tied for the most in football.

Brock Bowers, in his first game back from knee surgery, went 10 catches for 116 yards and a score and was nominated for FedEx Air and Ground Player of the Week. "Brock's always been a guy we can count on, but to come off an injury and play the way that he did, it was very, very impressive and we needed it," Klint Kubiak said.

One line item stays in the red. The Associated Press noted that Ashton Jeanty and Mike Washington Jr. produced 74 yards on 23 carries once you set aside a 36-yard touchdown run. Opinion: three wins have papered over a run game that has not yet justified its draft capital, and Kansas City is not the week to keep hiding it.

Kubiak, speaking Monday, said "you don't really get to find out about somebody until the chips are down and their backs are against the wall," then added that his team is "starting from scratch now with Kansas City."

The 3-0 Chiefs visit Allegiant Stadium on Sunday at 1:25 p.m. Pacific on CBS with first place in the AFC West on the line. Watch whether Cody White gets promoted from the practice squad to take Bech's snaps, and whether Dont'e Thornton Jr. is close enough to activate.
