Raiders get Nailor back at practice as Bills' Moore and Oliver sit out again
Jalen Nailor practiced in a non-contact jersey and Brock Bowers returned to full, while Buffalo's top receiver and veteran defensive tackle missed a second straight day.
The Raiders finally booked a credit on the injury ledger Thursday. Jalen Nailor, out since a concussion in the Week 4 loss to Kansas City, practiced for the first time this week, listed as limited on the team's official Week 6 injury report. NBC Sports noted he did it in a red non-contact jersey, which is the first step out of the protocol rather than the last one.
Brock Bowers went from limited Wednesday to full Thursday with the knee, the same pattern he followed last week before playing. Folorunso Fatukasi also upgraded to full. The outstanding debt is Tonka Hemingway, who has not practiced at all with a concussion. As Raiders Wire's Levi Damien pointed out, Hemingway had been the team's most-used interior defensive lineman before he left the Patriots game after 10 snaps, so a second straight absence puts the run defense back on Adam Butler, Fatukasi and whoever else Rob Leonard trusts.
Buffalo has its own red ink. Receiver DJ Moore (shoulder) and defensive tackle Ed Oliver (knee) both sat out Wednesday and Thursday after missing the Bills' overtime win over the Rams. Moore, brought in this offseason to be the No. 1 target, has 12 catches for 178 yards and a touchdown in four games. Oliver, in his eighth year anchoring that line, has nine tackles and half a sack in three, per Just Blog Baby.
Here is the opinion, and it is not a cheerful one: none of this touches the Raiders' actual problem. Ashton Jeanty is at 3.3 yards per carry with no rushing touchdown. Raiders Beat's Josh Liles did the arithmetic on it: seven carries from inside the five, no scores, the only one of 12 players with that many such attempts who hasn't found the end zone. Josh Allen has seven of those carries too. He scored on all seven.
Las Vegas is 3-2, Buffalo is 4-1, and kickoff is Sunday at 4:25 p.m. Eastern at Allegiant Stadium on CBS. The Bills have won three straight in the series.
Friday's report is the one that matters. Watch whether Nailor clears contact, whether Hemingway gets any kind of designation, and whether Buffalo rules out Moore and Oliver or lets them travel.
