Raiders rule out DT Tonka Hemingway as Bills bring NFL's top scoring offense

The Raiders ruled out their starting defensive tackle and kept two injured-reserve returns on the shelf a day before hosting Buffalo.

The Raiders closed the practice week by ruling out starting defensive tackle Tonka Hemingway, who is in concussion protocol and did not practice Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. The team's final Week 6 injury report lists three players out and one questionable ahead of Sunday's 1:25 p.m. PT kickoff against Buffalo at Allegiant Stadium.

Wide receiver Dont'e Thornton Jr. and tight end Carter Runyon are the other two. Both have been practicing on returns from injured reserve, Thornton in full all three days, and neither was activated to the active roster in time. Rookie guard Trey Zuhn III is questionable with a knee injury after three limited sessions. CBS Sports notes Hemingway's next window is Week 7 against the Rams.

The subtractions land in the worst possible place. By the team's own game preview numbers, Buffalo arrives averaging 32.8 points a game, tied for the league lead, and 158 rushing yards a game, fifth. Las Vegas is 27th in total defense at 377 yards allowed. Thinning the interior line against that is not a rounding error. Folorunso Fatukasi practiced in full all week and is the most obvious beneficiary of the snaps.

The credits: Jalen Nailor practiced in full Friday and carries no game designation after missing the New England game with a concussion, so a thin receiving room gets a body back. Ashton Jeanty and Brock Bowers are off the report entirely.

Jeanty being healthy and Jeanty being productive are separate line items. He has 291 rushing yards on 88 carries, 3.3 a pop, with no rushing touchdowns through five games, and the Raiders rank 28th in rushing at 82 yards a game. Athlon Sports has argued for splitting the load with Mike Washington Jr., who got one carry in Week 5. Opinion, clearly labeled: if the Raiders hand Jeanty the same workload behind the same blocking, Sunday will read like last Sunday.

Buffalo listed five questionable and ruled out nobody. DJ Moore (shoulder) and Ed Oliver (knee) both upgraded to limited Friday after missing Wednesday and Thursday, with Dee Alford, Joshua Palmer and T.J. Sanders also carrying designations.

The Raiders are 3-2 and have lost two straight, the last 45-17 at New England. Watch Sunday's inactives list around 11:55 a.m. PT for Zuhn, and watch whether Washington's snap count finally moves.
