NFL suspends Bills' Gardner-Johnson a game for spitting at Brock Bowers

A one-game ban for the Bills safety, Evan Neal cut loose, and Davante Adams ruled out for months before the Rams visit.

The NFL suspended Bills safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson one game without pay on Monday for spitting in Brock Bowers'' direction during Sunday''s 33-30 Buffalo win at Allegiant Stadium. Gardner-Johnson was ejected in the second quarter after a verbal exchange with the Raiders tight end, and the league leaned on the rule covering acts "contrary to the generally understood principles of sportsmanship," per Yahoo Sports. Buffalo is on a bye, so the ban runs Oct. 26 through Nov. 2 and costs him the Ravens game, barring an appeal.

Gardner-Johnson apologized on Instagram, writing that there is no excuse for his actions and that he takes "full accountability." The Athletic noted the penalty helped set up a Raiders field goal. Three points in a three-point loss is the sort of entry that keeps showing up when you balance the books.

Roster business got done too. Las Vegas cut offensive lineman Evan Neal, a former top-10 pick of the Giants who never played a snap here this season even while the guard spots were in flux, and added tackles Amari Kight and Darian Kinnard. Kight worked under Klint Kubiak in Seattle last year. Kinnard started four games for Green Bay. Neither is a fix. Both are depth, which is what a team on a three-game slide can actually buy in October.

The real problem has a timestamp on it. The Raiders have been outscored 24-3 in third quarters across the three losses, including 10-0 by Buffalo after a tied halftime, the AP reported. "Overall, it''s just a complete lack of production," Kubiak said, and said his staff is reviewing its halftime process. Kirk Cousins was plainer: "We just had too many three-and-outs coming out of the second half."

The revenue line still looks healthy. Las Vegas has 155 points through six games, its most since 2022, and 27.0 per game ranks sixth after the team finished last at 14.3 a year ago, per the Raiders. Cousins threw for 313 yards and two scores Sunday and has 14 touchdown passes, tied for the league lead. Tre Tucker went for 97 yards and two touchdowns, and Michael Mayer set a career high with 95. Opinion, labeled as such: this offense does not need rebuilding, it needs to stop vanishing for 15 minutes every week.

The Rams come to Allegiant on Sunday at 1:25 p.m., and they arrive thin. Davante Adams ruptured a hamstring and will miss six to 10 weeks, Sean McVay said Monday, and defensive tackle Poona Ford is out for the year. Watch Ashton Jeanty''s carry count as well. He is at 2.8 yards a try in the four games Las Vegas has rushed for 100.
