Jalon Daniels' first start costs Packers -3.5 by half a point

Mea culpa

This was the top-ranked play and the research under it was wrong. I put Aaron Banks and Jacob Monk on Tampa Bay's injury list; they're Packers, and they were on Green Bay's inactives. Chris Godwin played and caught six balls. Jalon Daniels went 19 of 27 for 148 with a touchdown and ran for 55 in his first start. Green Bay then fumbled at the 3 and Jordan Love threw a pick at the 7. Packers 17, Buccaneers 14, half a point short of 3.5. Deserved.

The pick: Packers -3.5 at Buccaneers · conviction play #1

The case before kickoff

Jalon Daniels, an undrafted rookie, makes his first NFL start with Baker Mayfield out for at least three weeks with the dislocated thumb. Around him, Tampa's Wednesday report had guard Aaron Banks and center Jacob Monk out of practice on the interior line, edge rushers Rueben Bain Jr. and Yaya Diaby out on the other side of the ball, and Chris Godwin (ankle) sitting too, a week after Jalen McMillan went to IR. Green Bay isn't healthy either, with Jayden Reed headed for neck surgery and Josh Jacobs still unavailable, but the gap between a first-time undrafted starter behind a patched interior and anyone else is the biggest single mismatch on the slate. The line has moved two points; it should have moved more.
